Vintage Widow’ on the label is a reference to ‘our families, often forgotten at vintage’. A five -star red at a four-star price, the 2010 (5 star) was grown on clay soils in the Waihopai Valley, matured in French oak casks and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Deeply coloured, with a fragrant bouquet suggestive of well-ripened, dark plums, it is generous, sweet-fruited and supple, with impressive concentration, finely integrated oak, and a spicy, long finish. A delicious and very age-worthy wine, it should be at its peak 2013-15.
5 Stars & Best Buy Cuisine Magazine NZ 2013.
Jackson Estate is another Marlborough winery to watch for pinot. “I love the florals, the acidity and the balance, said Alastair Mailing. It’s dark in the glass, still very young and tight with dark plum and savoury notes. Perfect with rare roast lamb.
