The fruit from our clay-bound Somerset Vineyard consistently produces a Pinot Noir that is a true expression of the vineyard and its terroir. Intense red fruits, perfumed violet and delicate rose petal combine with an underlying wild thyme aromatic to create a nose that is pure and classic.
Concentrated red fruit characters follow through on the palate, supported by sweet spice and elegant, silky soft tannins. The result is a rich, lifted and highly complex wine that, with careful cellaring, will develop further depth and complexity over time.
The acclaim our Pinot Noir generates is based entirely on the merit of our pristine, cool climate vineyards. Named for the vineyard from which the fruit is sourced, the Jackson Estate Somerset Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard wine that is true to its site, region and variety.

The Somerset Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard wine sourced from the Somerset Vineyard on Waihopai Valley Road, Marlborough. The soil profile consists of approximately 15-20cm of stony loam over a heavy Waihopai clay and gravel pan. The vineyard was not irrigated during the growing season.
This site consistently produces Pinot Noir with lifted floral aromatics, concentrated red fruit character and a refined, textured palate. The wine is made using traditional methods, including hand harvesting into small fermenters, wild fermentation and extended time on skins, before being pressed and transferred to French oak. It is aged in barrel for two years, followed by bottle maturation prior to release.
This is an elegant yet expressive Pinot Noir with both immediate appeal and the ability to develop further complexity with time. The wine shows balance, texture and depth, making it well suited to relaxed enjoyment as well as more considered drinking.
With careful cellaring, it will continue to evolve, gaining additional savoury detail and complexity over time.
