Waikato Times Peter Shaw October 2006 Jackson Estate Grey Ghost Sauvignon Blanc 2005 has an open fruity nose. The palate is fruity with distinctly tropical flavours. It’s crisp and clean, and has a good acid balance. This wine was released at the end of 2005, and has developed nicely. There may still be some about.
The Times (UK) Jane MacQuitty 17/06/2006 Featured in TOP 100 Summer Wines: …easily the top sauvignon blanc in this section (Summer Wines under £25). Part barrel-fermented and part in stainless steel, this intensely verdant, screwcapped wine, with lots of thrilling, steely, mouthwatering asparagus and tropical fruit, is a must.
NZ Herald Joelle Thompson 2005 Jackson Estate Grey Ghost $30. This wine has already appeared in Viva during the past six months and it easily earns another appearance, admittedly at the top price tier Think clean fresh and ever slightly salty in flavour. It is a winner with posh shellfish.

www.expertwine.com Matthew Jukes February 2006 Lean, gently smoky and beautifully controlled - a brand new wine you should try. Jackson Estate made one of the most impressive Sauvignon Blancs at last year’s tasting, but has certainly not been resting on its laurels. Grey Ghost is a new edition to the range, and a real Jukesy wine. The lean, gooseberry nose has more than a hint of barrel and a little gentle smokiness, presaging the key to this new offering – 60% of the fruit has been fermented in French oak (of which 15% is new). In addition, three weeks of lees stirring has added further complexity. One of the most impressive things about this wine, especially for a first release, is that it is so cohesive. The oak gives the wine a quite different character to the straight SB but is beautifully controlled and seamlessly integrated. Lean vanilla and lightly smoky oak flavours wrap around gooseberry and passion fruit with some guava and green citrus emerging on the long, elegant finish. This is a wine of real class.
NZ Herald Joelle Thompson February 2006 If words such as restrained, clean and fresh mean anything in relation to sauvignon blanc, then this is just the white for you. Snap up half a case or more of this outstanding sauvignon blanc from the very decent 2005 vintage. Available from specialist wine stores.
www.wineoftheweek.com Sue Courtney December 2005 Jackson Estate Marlborough Grey Ghost Sauvignon Blanc 2005 (sc) Hints of vanilla on the nose lead into a dry, fresh bracing mouthful of gooseberry and ripe citrus, with a slightly grainy texture, green apples, gooseberry, guava and summer herbs. Oak adds complexity and a mouthfilling creaminess to the palate but still lets the varietal character shine. It's crisp, fresh, beautifully balanced and very drinkable.
Independant (NZ) Jane Skilton MW December 2005 Grey Ghost is the new premium release from Jackson Estate and I was expecting an ultra sweaty, ripe passionfruit style of sauvignon. Instead I got a restrained, strongly varietal wine with a cut grass and gooseberry character, refreshing acidity and a good depth of fruit. More Loire than Marlborough I thoroughly enjoyed drinking a few glasses finding its reserved character a delight. |
