Sydney Morning Herald Huon Hooke Good Living 15th May 2007 Best Import. From a leading Marlborough winery, this has a minerally, Chablis-like style with some grassy and buttery aromas and a bracingly crisp palate that suits it to seafood. Taut, fresh and deliciously lip-smacking. 93/100
Cuisine Magazine March 2007 With minimal oak influence but maximum intensity, this is a compact, dry Marlborough style that opens up to seduce you with creamy, nutty and malolactic-driven flavours. 4 Stars
Decanter Rosemary George MW February 2007 Firm, oaky, nutty nose, with a similar nutty fruitiness on the palate. Substantial and rounded. 4 Stars.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine 15th December 2006 This reasonably complex Marlborough Chardonnay features pear and citrus fruit accented by hints of butter and spice. Add in layers of melon and anise, and the result is a very good wine that could just use a little more textured mouth-feel and longer finish. 87 points.
Capital Times Aaron Watson 6th December 2006 Jackson Estate Marlborough Shelter Belt Chardonnay 2005 has it all going on the nose – oak, butter biscuits, a little nuttiness and tropical fruit notes. It’s rich but easy drinking with lime flavours suggesting riesling. Take it to a party and give your friends a treat. Wine of the week.
Next Magazine John Hawkesby December 2006 A fresh approachable white which gives a lovely feel to the mouth. Great balance with stone fruit and lanolin.
The Press (Christchurch) Brian Prebble October 2006 Splendid Shelter. Winemaker Mike Paterson has produced a splendid Marlborough chardonnay. It has straw-gold colour, a creamy peach nose and terrific apricot-orange flavour, boosted by a tangy lime aftertaste. Add a hefty 13.5% alcohol nudge and you have something special for your next pasta dish.
Otago Daily Times Charmian Smith October 2006 Oodles of delicious hints of pineapple and tropical fruit, backed by overtones of butterscotch, crème brulee, and toasted nuts will appeal to those who enjoy oaky wines.
Waikato Times Peter Shaw October 2006 Jackson Estate Shelter Belt 2005 Chardonnay from Marlborough has a pale straw colour, and the nose is inviting with some peachy aromas, and malolactic aromas of buttery popcorn. The flavours are peaches and nectarines. It finishes in balance both fruit and acid.
Wine Wise Lester Jesberg June 2006 Spice, creamy and mealy with a hint of oyster shell aroma. Lovely structure with crisp acidity. Would that there were more chardonnays like this. Excellent value, as notes: very fine, delicate aromas — fine, creamy palate with excellent texture. Highly Recommended. |
