95 Points - 5 Stars Strong, dense, sweet fruit with restrained luscious flavours. Dark cherry, plum and spicy oak. A very seductive and appealing wine that's accessible now but promises to drink well for a number of years.

The grapes used in Jackson Estate Pinot Noir is in the name. The pinot grape is a star from Burgundy and it's from there the inspiration comes, even if this wine is made in New Zealand. The smell has a nice character of spices and a typical pinot style. The taste is fresher than the Bordeaux and is more juicy in style, focused on clear pinot. Both wines (2005 Jackson Estate Pinot Noir 2003 Château de Parenchère Cuvée Raphael) and are exceptional in quality, the choice of style is yours. Myself will choose the Bordeaux to a piece of dark meat and the Pinot to duck or game.

Top 100 Wines of 2007. Oak brackets the center of this wine with scents of wood smoke and espresso. In the middle, there’s a firm fruit presence to balance it, lasting on clean raspberry flavour both fresh and softly textured. Its richness will complement salmon in a red wine reduction. 90 points.

The International Wine Review Jay Youmans MW July 2007
The 2005 Vintage Widow Pinot Noir has a medium ruby color and displays aromas of cherry, spicy oak, clove and cinnamon. On the attack it reveals tart sweet cherry flavors, medium acidity and a solid finish. 89 points.

Wine Spectator D.S. January 2007
Chunky, with flavors of dried black cherry, roasted blackberry and cedary oak. Leathery notes and chewy tannins grip the finish. Drink now through 2009. 60 cases imported

Wine Enthusiast Magazine Joe Czerwinski December 2006
This winery seems to be at the top of its game in recent vintages, and this Pinot Noir is a good value as well. Slightly dusty, floral notes add complexity to its spice and cherry aromas, while the mouth feel is silky but not too soft. Finishes with hints of tea and rose petals. No need to wait on this one; drink now. 89 Points.

Waihopai Widows Debut release for this label which replaces the Marlborough Pinot; the widows are the families who get forgotten when the fun starts in the winery. This also features the first use of fruit from a Waihopai Valley site planted in 2001. Warm purple colour more akin to a merlot; the nose is pungent, with a good dose of smelly pinot characteristics. All this leads to a rich, smooth, lovely wine-watch this label; it’s going to be a cracker.

Sydney Morning Herald Huon Hooke Good Living 31st October 2006
Best Import. Bold, lush fruit is the main event here. Cherry, strawberry and fragrant spices to sniff; lovely succulent fruit floods the palate: deep, concentrated and lingering, with ample fleshy tannins. It’s all about the fruit. 94/100 Food duck roll-ups.

NZ Herald Joelle Thompson 4th October 2006
Another top Marlborough Pinot Noir from a winery best known for its white wines. Jackson Estate is emerging into a promising pinot producer, as this soft, smooth and spicy wine shows.

Waikato Times Peter Shaw 4th October 2006
Jackson Estate Vintage Widow 2005 Pinot Noir has good deep red colour. There are subtle aromas but full flavours on the palate of plums and cherries and cinnamon, There is firm astringency and soft tannin right through the palate. All these flavours linger well past the swallow.
